Application Uses

Nitoproof 410 is suitable for a comprehensive range of waterproofing applications:

  • Podiums, terraces, balconies, and deck areas – under toppings, tiles, and other protected environments
  • Wet areas and showers – classified as a Class II Membrane System
  • Foot-trafficable exposed roof top membranes – when overcoated with Nitoproof Top Coat UV
  • Exposed balcony decks and walkways subject to regular foot traffic
  • Water tanks and water storage areas (requiring sand/cement slurry priming with Nitobond SBR for submerged applications)
  • Tiled pools and water features (requiring Nitobond SBR slurry priming for immersed conditions)
  • Foundation waterproofing in subterranean areas, retaining walls, and planter boxes

Design Criteria and Application Specifications

Application Methods

Nitoproof 410 is designed for application using:

  • Thick brush
  • Roller
  • Airless spray equipment

Coverage and Film Thickness Requirements

General Non-Immersed Applications:

  • Approximate total coverage: 1.6 L/m²
  • Wet Film Thickness (WFT): 1.6 mm
  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1.3 mm
  • Applied as two (2) coats with minimum total coverage of 1.6 litres/m²

Immersed/Below-Ground Applications:

  • Approximate total coverage: 2.0 L/m²
  • Wet Film Thickness (WFT): 2.0 mm
  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1.7 mm
  • Applied as three (3) coats with minimum total coverage of 2.0 litres/m²

Successive Coat Application

Each successive coat should be applied at 90 degrees to the previous coat, with an allowable drying time of 1-3 hours between coats.

Supply and Packaging

Nitoproof 410 is supplied in 25 kg (19.2 litre) two-component packs:

Component Volume/Weight Product Code
Part A (Liquid) 12.5 L FC000603-12.5L
Part B (Powder) 12.5 kg FC000604-12.5KG

Coverage/Yield:

  • Each 25 kg kit yields approximately 19.2 litres of mixed product
  • General applications: approximately 12 m²/19.2 litres
  • Immersed applications: approximately 9.6 m²/19.2 litres

Mixing Requirements

Proper mixing is critical for optimal performance:

  • Mix in equal parts by weight (1L Part A liquid to 0.8L Part B dry powder)
  • Add approximately half of the powder while mixing and wet out well
  • Add remaining powder and wet out thoroughly
  • Scrape the sides of the pail and mixing paddle
  • Mix at higher speed for 3 minutes while avoiding aeration
  • Allow mixed material to stand for 3 minutes, then lightly re-mix
  • The product is then ready to apply

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces must be:

  • Clean, sound, and stable
  • Free of loose foreign material, existing coatings, laitance, release agents, curing compounds, and oil/grease residues
  • Moisture content not exceeding 5% when tested using a Tramex CMEX5 moisture meter for concrete and masonry substrates
  • Rendered surfaces must cure for at least 16 hours in normal ambient conditions before waterproofing commences

Priming Requirements

Substrates must be primed prior to Nitoproof 410 application:

  • Porous masonry surfaces: Nitoprime 120 at approximately 7 m²/L, or Nitoproof 510 (more robust option) at 5 m²/L
  • Non-porous substrates (CFC, wet area timber, ceramic tile, metals, plastics): Nitoprime 115 at approximately 12 m²/L
  • Submerged applications: Slurry primer made of sand, cement, and Nitobond SBR

Standards Compliance

Nitoproof 410 has been independently tested and meets rigorous construction standards:

  • AS/NZS 4858:2004 – Wet Area Membrane as a Class II membrane
  • AS 3740:2021 – Waterproofing of Wet Areas Within Residential Buildings
  • AS/NZS 4654.1:2012 – Waterproofing membranes for external above-ground use (Part 1: Materials)
  • AS 4586-2013 – Slip resistance (when overcoated with Nitoproof Top Coat UV and Nitoproof Top Coat EW)

Shelf Life and Storage

  • Part A shelf life: 24 months from date of manufacture if kept in original, unopened packaging
  • Part B shelf life: 36 months from date of manufacture if kept in original, unopened packaging
  • Do not use if lumps are present in the product

Cleaning

  • Wet state: Can be cleaned from tools and equipment using water
  • Hardened material: Requires mechanical removal

Application Temperature Limitations

  • Do not apply in temperatures above 35°C or below 5°C
  • Surface temperature must be monitored rather than ambient temperature, as it determines application suitability

Post-Application Requirements

  • Curing: Must cure for a minimum of 24 hours at 25°C before placing protection
  • Tiling commencement: Approximately 24 hours after final coat under normal ambient conditions (23°C @ 50% RH), with an additional 24 hours drying time at 10°C
  • UV stability: Not UV stable; must be cured before protection is applied

Compatibility and System Integration

Nitoproof 410 is compatible with:

  • Polymer-modified cement-based tile adhesives – for direct adhesion to the membrane
  • Nitobond SBR – recommended within screeds and renders directly over the membrane as a waterproof and adhesion enhancer
  • Nitoproof Top Coat UV – for creating foot-trafficable, UV-stable exposed roof membranes
  • Nitoband System and Nitoband SA – bond-breaking systems for substrate junctions and critical movement zones
