Application Instructions
Joint Preparation
Joint surfaces must be completely dry, clean, and frost-free. The joint backing must also be dry. Preparation involves:
- Vigorous wire brushing to remove all dirt, dust, laitance, and loose material
- Removal of all rust, scale, and loose surface coatings from metal surfaces
- Degreasing any oil or grease using Fosroc Solvent 10
- Application of masking tape (if a neat joint finish is required) before Nitoseal MB180 application, removed immediately after sealing
Priming
- Non-moving joints typically do not require primer
- Excessively porous or friable surfaces may benefit from Fosroc Primer 24
- Non-porous surfaces generally do not require priming; metal surfaces can be cleaned with Fosroc Solvent 10
- Ferrous metals should be treated with anti-corrosion primer
Application Method
- Apply using gun or trowel
- Ensure nozzle is cut to the required length and angle
- Puncture the sausage membrane before loading into the gun
- Hold gun firmly against joint at approximately 45° angle
- Guide nozzle along the joint gradually, ensuring good contact with joint surface
- Avoid hard pumping of the trigger
- Wipe nozzle occasionally for clean extrusion
- Tool to a slightly concave surface with a wooden spatula (optionally moistened with White Spirits or similar solvent)
Cleanup
Remove immediately from equipment after use with Fosroc Solvent 10 or White Spirits. Use suitable proprietary skin cleaners for hands rather than solvents.
Important Limitations
- Not suitable for permanent water immersion
- Not suitable for closed tanks with poor ventilation that inhibit solvent evaporation
- Not suitable for trafficked surfaces
- Wide joints are liable to mechanical damage
Coverage Data
