Application Instructions Overview
Surface Preparation Requirements
Concrete Surfaces: All surfaces must be dry or surface saturated dry, smooth, sound, and free from debris. Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned of contamination (oil, grease, dust, organic growth) and must be fully cured with no traces of shuttering release oils or curing compounds. All surfaces should be grit-blasted to remove foreign matter and open blow holes.
Steel Surfaces: All surfaces must be grit-blasted to meet AS1627.4 Class 2.5 requirements. Coating should be applied immediately after cleaning before rust or scale reformation.
Mixing Procedure
The base container contents should be stirred thoroughly to disperse settlement. The entire contents of the hardener can should be added to the base and mixed thoroughly until uniform color and consistency are obtained. Mechanical mixing using a suitable mixer on a heavy-duty, slow-speed electric drill for 3 to 5 minutes is recommended.
Important Application Considerations
Once mixed, the product should be immediately poured into flat, open paint trays to maximize pot life. Holding the product in the original mixing can will cause an exothermic reaction that significantly reduces usable pot life.
If coating is exposed to moisture during cure (condensation, dew), it must be mechanically roughened prior to overcoating to prevent delamination.
Storage and Shelf Life
Nitocote EP410 should be kept in a dry store in original, unopened containers between 5°C and 30°C. Storage at high temperatures may reduce shelf life.
Limitations and Important Notes
- Not Color Fast: Nitocote EP410 is designed as an industrial coating and may exhibit yellowing over time due to UV light and heat exposure. This color drift does not compromise protective performance or chemical resistance.
- Temperature Constraints: Application should not be undertaken if temperature is below 10°C or is 10°C and falling, nor when relative humidity exceeds 90%
- Existing Coatings: Should not be applied over existing coatings
- Moisture Protection: Coating requires protection from flowing water and heavy rain during the initial 6-8 hour cure period
Cleaning and Removal
Uncured Nitocote EP410 should be removed from tools and equipment immediately after use with Fosroc Solvent 10. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.
