Recommended Thickness

Drying Times

The drying times are temperature-dependent:

Recoat Interval

Nitoprime Zincrich is recoatable generally between 30 minutes and 1 hour after initial application, depending on temperature. Application of concrete repair materials may also proceed at this time.

Application Temperature

  • Minimum application temperature: 5°C
  • The material should not be applied when the substrate and/or air temperature is 5°C and falling
  • At 5°C stable temperature or at 5°C and rising, application may proceed

Coverage Rate

  • Theoretical coverage: 8 m²/litre (approximately)

Important Note: This coverage figure is theoretical. Due to wastage factors and the variety and nature of possible steel substrates, practical coverage figures will be reduced.

Surface Preparation Requirements

Proper surface preparation is critical for optimal performance:

  1. Expose fully any corroded steel in the repair area
  2. Remove all loose scale and flaky corrosion deposits
  3. Grit blasting or high-pressure water blasting is recommended for this process
  4. Where chloride-induced corrosion has occurred, high-pressure wash the steel with clean water immediately after grit-blasting to remove corrosion products from pits and imperfections
  5. Apply to dry steel within 3 hours of steel preparation

Application Instructions

  1. Stir thoroughly before use to redisperse any settlement
  2. Apply one full and unbroken coat using a suitable brush
  3. Ensure the back of exposed steel reinforcing bars are properly coated
  4. Allow to dry fully before continuing
  5. If an unbroken coating is not achieved, apply a second coat as soon as the first coat is fully dry (recoat time generally between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on temperature)

Repair Mortar Application Interval

  • Non-aggressive exterior environments: Maximum interval of 14 days is acceptable to apply repair mortar
  • Industrial and/or marine environments: The interval should be reduced to the practical minimum
  • The repair mortar can be applied over Nitoprime Zincrich as soon as it is fully dry, typically ranging between 30 minutes and 1 hour

Limitations
