Nitoprime 330 is a water-based styrene-acrylate copolymer emulsion primer specifically formulated as the recommended primer for Cemtop cementitious flooring systems. It is supplied as a single component white liquid that dries clear, making it an economical and easy-to-use solution for floor surface preparation.

Product Description

Nitoprime 330 is manufactured by Fosroc and represents a high-performance solution for sealing and preparing concrete and cementitious substrates prior to the application of cementitious self-smoothing screeds. The primer's formulation provides excellent adhesion characteristics while preventing air release that could otherwise cause pinholes in floor toppings.

Dilution Ratio

Nitoprime 330 must be diluted at a 1:4 ratio (primer to clean water by volume) before application.

Application Method

• Applied and worked into the floor by broom
• Should NOT be applied by roller as this is not an approved application method
• Should NOT be applied by spray as this is not an approved application method
• Must be well brushed into the surface to ensure proper penetration
• Ponding must be avoided as excessive thickness can lead to failure at the bond line

Recommended Application Process

For optimal results, two coats of primer are recommended to ensure the substrate is fully sealed and to minimize the likelihood of pinholes in the topping:

1. First coat: Apply after the concrete floor has been prepared and cleaned, diluted 1:4, allow to dry (approximately 45 minutes at 23°C)
2. Second coat: Apply when the first coat is dry, diluted 1:4, allow to dry (approximately 90 minutes at 23°C)
3. Third coat (if necessary): For extremely porous floors, a third coat may be applied at the same 1:4 ratio

Coverage Rate

Nitoprime 330 provides coverage of 10 to 20 square metres per litre per coat after dilution with clean water. Coverage varies depending on substrate absorbency and surface roughness.

Limitations and Restrictions

Nitoprime 330 has specific limitations that must be observed:

• Should not be used on oil-contaminated concrete as this limits its effectiveness
• Should not be applied on existing epoxy toppings
• Temperature restriction: Should not be applied when the substrate surface temperature is below 10°C, or likely to fall below 10°C within 48 hours of application
• Suitable only for sound concrete and cementitious screeds that are free from surface contamination and have been well prepared

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Nitoprime 330 should be removed from tools, equipment and mixers with clean water immediately after use
• Dried material can only be removed mechanically - no solvent-based cleanup is possible once the material has cured

Application with Cemtop Systems

Nitoprime 330 is the essential primer component in both single-layer and dual-layer Cemtop XD installation systems. For dual-layer systems where thicknesses exceed 12mm, the underlayment material (Cemtop GP Advanced) should be primed with Nitoprime 330 after hardening before applying the final 6mm layer of Cemtop XD.

The primer's primary function is to seal the existing floor to prevent air release that would otherwise rise and form bubbles and pinholes in the Cemtop XD product, while also aiding adhesion between the floor and the topping material.
