Product Intelligence

Nitoflor PU200: Low VOC Polyurethane Floor Sealer

Product Overview

Nitoflor PU200 is a high-build, cementitious polyurethane top coat flooring system designed for industrial and commercial applications. It functions as a versatile sealer coating that can be applied over Nitoflor PU600 polyurethane cement floor topping or as a standalone coating directly to concrete substrates.

Key Features and Advantages

Nitoflor PU200 offers excellent chemical resistance to a wide spectrum of organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, amines, salts, and solvents. The product is hard-wearing and abrasion resistant, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments including chemical storage plants, food processing industries, laboratories, plant rooms, warehouses, and industrial manufacturing zones.

The coating provides low odour and non-tainting properties during application, along with anti-microbial properties that reduce bacterial and mould growth. It is HACCP certified for use in food handling areas such as kitchens and production zones, and is RCS (Respirable Crystalline Silica) Hazard Free, containing less than 0.1% RCS.

Low VOC Environmental Advantage

A significant environmental benefit of Nitoflor PU200 is its low VOC (volatile organic compound) emission, which complies with Green Building Council of Australia standards. The product has a VOC content of 31g per litre (ASTM D3960), making it an environmentally responsible choice for construction projects with sustainability requirements.

Technical Specifications

Physical Properties

Property Specification
Bond Strength 2.3 MPa (EN1542)
Hardness 80 Shore D (ASTM C351)
Water Absorption 1.99% @ 80°C (ASTM D570)
Density 1.422 g/cm³
Pot Life Approximately 15 minutes at 25°C
Service Temperature Range 0°C to 80°C (standalone coating)

Application Thickness and Coverage

Nitoflor PU200 is applied at 0.5mm thickness per coat. Coverage specifications vary depending on application method:

  • As a single coat over Nitoflor PU600: 13.1 m² per 9.5 kg kit
  • As a standalone coating to concrete: 13.1 m² per 9.5 kg kit (2 coats recommended for optimal performance)

The coverage figures provided are theoretical; practical coverage may be reduced due to wastage factors and substrate variations.

Cure Times

The product demonstrates temperature-dependent cure characteristics:

Condition 10°C 20°C 30°C
Light Traffic 36 hours 24 hours 12 hours
Full Traffic 72 hours 48 hours 24 hours
Full Chemical Cure 12 days 7 days 5 days

Thermal Shock Range

The thermal shock range (rapid temperature variation tolerance) is 0°C to 80°C for Nitoflor PU200 as a standalone coating, while when used as part of a multi-coat flooring system with Nitoflor PU600, the range extends to -15°C to 80°C or higher, depending on the total system thickness.

Color Variants and Light Reflectance Values

Nitoflor PU200 is supplied as a coloured matt finish using Nitoflor PU Colour Pigments. Available color variants with their light reflectance values (LRV) per BS 8493:2008 include:

Color Variant Light Reflectance Value
Pipeline Grey 8.3%
Curtain Call 12.76%
Jade 12.92%
Bright Blue 21.35%
Red Oxide 27.49%
Sunflower 40.99%
Oatmeal 48.33%

Slip Resistance Properties

When applied with broadcast anti-slip aggregates, Nitoflor PU200 achieves excellent slip resistance ratings according to AS4586:

  • With Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 01: R11 slip resistance rating
  • With Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 21: R13 slip resistance rating

System Components and Supply

Nitoflor PU200 is supplied as a 9.5 kg pre-weighed kit (yielding 6.68 litres of mixed product) containing:

  • Part A Base (2.6 kg): Requires stirring to redisperse any settlement
  • Part B Hardener (2.8 kg): Added during mixing process
  • Part C Fillers (3.8 kg): Added to provide desired properties (24-month shelf life)
  • Colour Pigment (0.3 kg): Available in multiple colour options for uniform colour achievement

Standards Compliance

Nitoflor PU200 complies with AS/ISO 9239.1-2003 (Reaction to Fire Tests for Floorings), achieving:

  • Critical Heat Flux (CHF): ≥11.0 kW/m²
  • Smoke Value: 7%.min

Storage and Shelf Life

Components should be stored in cool, dry conditions between 5°C and 30°C in original, unopened packs:

  • Part B Hardener: 18-month shelf life from manufacture
  • Part C Fillers: 24-month shelf life from manufacture

Storage at high temperatures and/or high humidity may reduce shelf life.

Application Characteristics

Nitoflor PU200 should only be applied by specialist contractors recognised by Fosroc who have been trained in correct installation procedures. The product has a short pot life of approximately 15 minutes at 25°C, requiring efficient handling and prompt application. Application temperature range is 10°C to 30°C. Application is performed by pouring the mixed product onto the prepared floor, then using a squeegee and roller to fully seal the surface.

Limitations and Maintenance

The product is not colour-fast and may exhibit a yellowing effect over time, depending on UV light and heat exposure levels. This is more noticeable in light colours and blues but does not compromise performance or chemical resistance.

Nitoflor PU200 is not suitable for deep freezing applications or steam-only cleaning (steam and hot water blend recommended at maximum 80°C for standalone coatings).

Regular maintenance involves cleaning with a single or double-headed rotary scrubber drier in conjunction with a mildly alkaline detergent.
