Nitoflor HD - Liquid Floor Hardener & Densifier
Nitoflor HD is a lithium silicate hardener and densifier used on new or existing internal floors to improve dust, wear and abrasion resistance while maintaining concrete appearance. It hardens and densifies concrete, reduces dusting, improves wear and abrasion resistance, and requires only a single coat application with no residues or flushing off required. Ideal for manufacturing facility floors, warehouse floors, and storage facility floors. Also used in concrete polishing processes by hardening the concrete surface before grinding/polishing.

Nitoflor HD - Liquid Floor Hardener & Densifier
Overview
Nitoflor HD is a liquid lithium silicate hardener and densifier designed to improve the durability, appearance, and performance of concrete and masonry floor surfaces. It is manufactured by Fosroc and represents an environmentally friendly solution for protecting and enhancing concrete floors across various industrial and commercial applications.
Key Features & Advantages
Nitoflor HD delivers multiple performance benefits:
- Hardens and densifies concrete - Improves structural integrity of the concrete surface
- Reduces dusting - Eliminates dust generation from wear and foot traffic
- Improves wear and abrasion resistance - Enhances durability in high-traffic areas
- Single coat application - Efficient application requiring only one coat
- No residues - No flushing off required after application
- Stain resistance - Provides improved protection against staining
- Low VOC content - Contains only 11g/litre VOC, making it environmentally friendly
- Retains concrete appearance - Maintains natural or pigmented concrete aesthetics while improving durability
Technical Specifications
Application Rate & Coverage
Nitoflor HD is designed for single coat application at approximately 7-10 m²/litre, depending on the porosity and roughness of the concrete surface being treated.
Product Supply
Nitoflor HD is available in convenient container sizes:
| Container Size | Product Code |
|---|---|
| 5 litres | FC605105-5L |
| 20 litres | FC605105-20L |
Storage Requirements
- Keep in dry storage in original, unopened packs
- Do not allow to freeze
- Keep container closed when not in use
- Do not transfer material into other containers for storage or disposal
Approved Applications & Uses
Nitoflor HD is suitable for application on most new or existing concrete or masonry surfaces, with typical applications including:
- Manufacturing facility floors
- Warehouse floors
- Storage facility floors
- Floors subject to foot traffic and light wheel loads
Application Instructions
Surface Preparation for Hardened Concrete
Essential preparation steps include:
- Nitoflor HD must be applied to sound, clean substrate free of previous coatings, grease, oil, dirt, adhesives, laitance, and any other surface contamination
- Thoroughly clean the surface with a neutral cleaner and then fresh water to remove contaminants or surface barriers
- Surface must be dry before initial application
Surface Preparation for Freshly Laid Concrete
- Nitoflor HD can be applied as a stand-alone hardener and densifier to freshly laid concrete as soon as there is no free water on the surface and the concrete is firm enough to walk on
Application Method
- Agitate Nitoflor HD before use
- Apply with a low-pressure sprayer or scrubber at approximately 7 to 10 m²/litre
- Keep floor wet with material for 20 minutes - if an area begins to dry, re-mist with material
- Do not add water to the material or to the surface being treated
- Let the surface dry without puddling by brooming the product around if necessary
- After the material dries, clean up any excess material with a scrubber
- Allow one hour to dry after final coat prior to foot traffic
Curing Time
- Nitoflor HD should be free from contact with water for the initial 24 hours in ambient temperature to allow cure time
- After 24 hours, the surface can be damp mopped or scrubbed with an auto scrubber and pH neutral cleaner
- Humidity will delay cure time - reduce humidity by using a fan if necessary
Maintenance
Surface should be regularly cleaned with a pH neutral cleaner to achieve optimum performance and longevity.
Important Limitations
Concrete Quality Requirements
Nitoflor HD will not penetrate curing compounds or other coatings on concrete being treated. These must be removed by mechanical means such as diamond grinding before applying Nitoflor HD.
Importantly, liquid hardeners work by reacting with Calcium Hydroxide available in the concrete. If the concrete has been rain affected or overworked in the laying process, there may not be sufficient Calcium Hydroxide present for the reaction to occur. These products will not fix bad concrete.
Coverage & Performance Variables
- Coverage and consumption rates will vary depending on the porosity and roughness of the concrete being treated
- Stain resistance and sheen level will vary depending on porosity and roughness of the concrete being treated
Application Constraints
- Material cannot be applied in below freezing temperatures
- Adverse weather conditions or humidity may affect cure time and application rates
- Applying Nitoflor HD to concrete may affect the slip resistance of the surface
- Grinding or polishing of treated concrete may affect overall floor characteristics - it is recommended to carry out grinding and slip trials on projects where slip resistance may be of concern, particularly for external concrete which may become wet
Enhanced Performance Option
If required, Nitoflor HD can be treated with Nitoflor HD-S to provide a floor with similar abrasion resistance but with improved stain resistance and higher sheen level compared to standard Nitoflor HD.
Concrete Polishing Applications
Nitoflor HD is also used in the concrete polishing process by hardening the concrete surface before grinding and polishing operations, making it an essential preparation step for decorative concrete applications.
Safety & Documentation
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website. The SDS and Technical Data Sheet should be read carefully prior to use as application or performance data may change from time to time.
