Concure A99: Water-Based Acrylic Concrete Curing Compound
Product Overview
Concure A99 is a water-based acrylic curing compound manufactured by Fosroc International Limited and distributed by Parchem Construction Supplies. It is specifically formulated to promote proper hydration and strength development in concrete by facilitating water retention at the concrete surface during the critical early curing period.
Composition & Physical Characteristics
Concure A99 is composed of a liquid acrylic emulsion that dries to form a transparent protective film on concrete surfaces. The product is presented as a milky white stable emulsion with the following measured properties:
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Milky white liquid |
| Density | 1.009 kg/L (AS3799.3.1.9) |
| Viscosity | 0.09 Pa.s (AS3799.3.1.5) |
| Non-volatile Content | 30.69% (AS3799.3.1.2) |
| VOC Content | 163g/litre |
| Drying Time (Tack Free) | 4 hours (AS3799.3.1.4) |
| Trafficable Time | 24 hours |
| Emulsion Stability | 0.89% (RMS T862) |
| Residue 150μm | 0.05% (AS3799.3.1.6) |
Key Performance Specifications
Water Retention Efficiency
Concure A99 achieves a water retention efficiency of 90%, measured according to AS3799.3.1.2 standards. This exceptional water retention capability is the product's primary mechanism for facilitating concrete curing by reducing water loss from the concrete matrix.
Coverage Rate
The product provides a coverage rate of 5 square metres per litre when applied at the specified thickness.
Application Temperature Range
- Minimum: 5°C
- Maximum: 35°C
Standards Compliance
Concure A99 complies with multiple international and national standards:
- AS3799-1998: Class D, Type 1 curing compound (Boral Ref 258/23)
- AS/NZS 4020:2018: Suitable for use in contact with drinking water at an exposure level of 15,000mm² per litre (AWQC Ref 130335-2020-CSR-8)
Container Sizes & Product Codes
Concure A99 is supplied in the following container variants:
| Container Size | Product Code | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| 20 litre | FC600909-20L | Standard stock |
| 205 litre | FC600909-205L | Standard stock |
| 1000 litre | FC600909-1000L | Made to order (Min: 1 unit, Lead time: 21-28 days) |
Primary Uses & Applications
Concure A99 is recommended for:
- Freshly laid concrete surfaces including renders, structural concrete, and mass concrete both indoors and outdoors
- Situations where conventional wet curing methods are difficult to maintain
- Off-form vertical concrete as a clear sealer
- Finished cementitious materials including Nitobond SBR mortars and renders
- Repair mortars such as Guncrete E and Renderoc products
- Exposed grout areas following grouting operations with products such as Conbextra BB92 and Conbextra HF
Key Advantages
- Water retention efficiency of 90% enabling effective concrete curing
- Environmentally friendly water-based formulation
- Rapid film formation on concrete surfaces
- Will not yellow in sunlight exposure
- Economical application and coverage
- Seals concrete surfaces while curing
- Accepts most acrylic-based after trades without requiring removal
- Eliminates the need for damp hessian, sand, or polythene sheeting in conventional wet curing methods
Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
Ensure the concrete surface is completely free of stains, oils, form coatings, and other contaminants to obtain good adhesion and avoid discoloration or uneven surface effects.
Timing of Application
Spray Concure A99 evenly over freshly laid concrete as soon as possible after final trowelling and just after the disappearance of surface bleed water for maximum water retention (approximately 1 to 2 hours depending on ambient temperature and atmospheric conditions).
Application Methods
Preferred method: Spray application using appropriate spray equipment
Alternative methods:
- Soft brush application
- Broom application
- Wide nap roller application
Coverage Rate
Apply at an even coverage rate of not greater than 5m²/litre
Application Technique
Multiple thin coats are recommended to avoid milky discoloration when dry. Coats applied too thickly may remain a milky colour when dry.
Vertical Surfaces
Apply to vertical surfaces immediately after the formwork has been removed
Important Limitations & Restrictions
Incompatible Applications
- Do not use with metallic-based integral floor hardeners (use Concure CR instead to prevent rusting of aggregate)
- Do not recommend direct stick timber or parquetry flooring products over Concure A99
Timing Constraints
- Do not brush onto soft, wet concrete or render surfaces which will be disturbed and prevent curing film formation
- Do not apply too soon after trowelling finishes when used as a combined curing compound/sealer to limit bleed water affecting adhesion
Testing Requirement
A test trial application must be performed and approved before proceeding with the full job
Storage Requirements
- Storage Temperature Range: 5°C to 35°C
- Packaging: Original unopened packaging
- Storage Conditions: Dry conditions
- Frost Protection: Must be protected from frost
- Shelf Life: Standard commercial shelf life in proper conditions
Storage Precautions
Do not use if:
- Lumps are present in the product
- Product has a bacterial or rotting smell
- Material has discoloured
Cleaning & Maintenance
Concure A99 should be removed from tools and equipment with water immediately after use. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.
Product Safety & Documentation
- A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website
- A Technical Data Sheet (TDS) provides comprehensive product knowledge and usage instructions
- In emergency situations, contact any Poisons Information Centre (phone 13 11 26 within Australia) or consult a doctor
