Product Intelligence
Nitoprime DG: Reactive Silane-Siloxane Primer
Product Overview
Nitoprime DG is a single-component, film-forming penetrating primer supplied as a clear liquid based on acrylic resin and silane-siloxane dissolved in a penetrating organic carrier. It is specifically designed to prime concrete and masonry surfaces before the application of water-based coatings within the Dekguard coating systems, including Dekguard E2000 and Dekguard Elastic.
Chemical Composition & Reactive Properties
Active Components
Nitoprime DG is formulated with silane-siloxane as its primary reactive component. This chemical compound, dissolved in a penetrating organic carrier, creates a chemically-bound hydrophobic barrier that inhibits the passage of water and water-borne contaminants through the substrate. The silane-siloxane component is reactive and capable of producing durable, long-lasting protection against moisture ingress and chloride ion penetration.
Formulation
- Base Material: Acrylic resin and silane-siloxane
- Carrier: Penetrating organic solvent medium
- Form: Clear liquid
- Drying Characteristic: Dries to form a thin surface film that consolidates and stabilises porous substrates
Key Performance Features
Protective Functions
Nitoprime DG delivers multiple protective benefits:
- Moisture Ingress Prevention: Creates a barrier preventing water and water-borne contaminants from entering concrete substrates
- Chloride Ion Ingress Prevention: Helps prevent the ingress of chloride ions into concrete, protecting reinforcement from corrosion
- Fast Drying: Enables work to progress efficiently, with overcoating possible within 2 hours at 20°C
Surface Stabilisation
The primer produces a thin surface film that both consolidates and stabilises porous substrates, preparing them for subsequent coating applications.
Technical Specifications
Application Properties
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Clear liquid |
| Number of Coats | Flood coat |
| Theoretical Application Rate | 2.5 m²/litre or 0.4 litres/m² |
| Wet Film Thickness | As per application rate |
| VOC Content | 735 g/L |
Drying & Overcoating Times
| Temperature | Overcoating Time |
|---|---|
| 20°C | 2 hours |
| 30°C | 90 minutes |
Minimum Substrate Temperature Requirement: Application should not commence if the substrate temperature is below 2°C.
Coverage Rate
Approximately 2.5 m² per litre, depending on the porosity of the substrate. This translates to an application rate of 0.4 litres/m² to achieve the required protection properties.
Supply & Packaging

Storage & Shelf Life
- Shelf Life: 2 years if kept in a dry store in original, unopened packs
- Storage Conditions: Cool, dry conditions away from sources of heat and naked flames
- Temperature Sensitivity: If stored at high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions, shelf life may be reduced
Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be prepared in accordance with the relevant Dekguard coating data sheet. Surfaces must be clean, sound, and stable.
Application Method
- Best Practice: Portable spray equipment of the knapsack-type is recommended for optimal application
- Application Sequence: Apply in one or more coats until the recommended application rate of 0.4 litres/m² has been achieved
- Environmental Protection: Mask glass areas; protect plants, grass, joint sealants, asphalt, and bitumen-painted areas during application
Drying Before Overcoating
The primer must be allowed to dry for a minimum of two hours at 20°C before application of Dekguard coating. Under no circumstances should the primer be overcoated until the surface is properly dry.
Compatibility & System Integration
Dekguard Systems
Nitoprime DG serves as the first coat component in:
- Dekguard E2000: An elastomeric, pigmented acrylic coating system
- Dekguard Elastic: An elastomeric coating system designed for atmospheric protection
Alternative Use
Nitoprime DG may be used as an alternative primer for very porous surfaces instead of Dekguard Primer in solvent-based Dekguard systems. When used on very porous surfaces, it is applied at the same coverage rate as Dekguard Primer, in multiple coats as necessary.
Important Note
Do not use Dekguard Primer as an alternative primer for water-based Dekguard coatings. Nitoprime DG is the correct primer for water-based Dekguard systems.
Cleaning & Maintenance
All tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with Fosroc Solvent 10. Spillages should be absorbed with sand or sawdust and disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
