Dekguard Primer: Silane-Siloxane Concrete Primer

Dekguard Primer is a silane-siloxane based primer specifically formulated to prepare concrete and masonry surfaces prior to the application of solvent-based Dekguard coatings. It is manufactured and sold under license from Fosroc International Limited, with the Dekguard trademark owned by Fosroc International Limited.

Composition

Dekguard Primer is based on silane-siloxane as its active chemical component. The silane-siloxane compound is capable of producing a chemically-bound hydrophobic barrier, thus inhibiting the passage of water and water-borne contaminants through the primed surface.

Overcoating Times

The time allowed for drying before application of Dekguard coating varies by temperature:

Application Method

Dekguard Primer should be applied using portable spray equipment of the knapsack-type to achieve the desired application rate of 0.4 litres/m². The primer must be applied in one or more coats until the recommended application rate has been achieved.

Application Temperature

Application should not commence if the temperature of the substrate is below 2°C. The primer should be allowed to dry for a minimum of two hours at 20°C before application of the Dekguard coating.

Compatible Coatings

Dekguard Primer is designed for use prior to application of solvent-based Dekguard coatings, including:

• Dekguard S – High-performance pigmented aliphatic acrylic protective coating
• Dekguard Clear – Solvent-based clear coating

Important note: Dekguard Primer should not be used as an alternative primer for water-based Dekguard coatings such as Dekguard Elastic or Dekguard E2000. For water-based coatings, use Nitoprime DG instead.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be prepared in accordance with relevant Dekguard coating data sheets. During application, the following areas must be protected:

• Any areas of glass should be masked
• Plants, grass, joint sealants, asphalt, and bitumen-painted areas should be protected during application

Very Porous Surfaces

For very porous concrete surfaces, Nitoprime DG may be applied as an alternative primer. Nitoprime DG should be applied at the same coverage rate as Dekguard Primer in multiple coats as necessary to adequately seal absorbent substrates.

Cleaning and Removal

All tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with Fosroc Solvent 10. Spillages should be absorbed with sand or sawdust and disposed in accordance with local regulations.

Storage and Shelf Life

• Storage conditions: Store in a dry, cool store in original packs away from heat and naked flames
• Shelf life: Product should be stored properly to maintain effectiveness
