Product Intelligence

Nitobond HAR - Polymer Emulsion Bonding Primer

Product Overview

Nitobond HAR is a single component polymer emulsion bonding agent specifically designed as a primer for the Renderoc cementitious repair system. As a ready-to-use product, it requires no site mixing and offers excellent bonding properties between repair materials and concrete substrates.

Chemical Composition

Nitobond HAR is formulated as a polymer emulsion base system, providing the fundamental bonding capability for cementitious repair applications. The polymer emulsion composition enables the product to create strong adhesive bonds without the need for complex mixing procedures.

Key Specifications

VOC Content

The product has a VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) content of 29.9 g/litre, making it suitable for use in various environmental conditions.

Coverage Rate

Nitobond HAR provides coverage of 4 to 6 m²/litre, allowing for efficient project planning and material estimation.

Supply Sizes

The product is available in multiple container sizes:

  • 1 litre (Product code: FC322070-1L)
  • 5 litres (Product code: FC322070-5L)
  • 20 litres (Product code: FC322070-20L)

Key Advantages

  • Single component - no site mixing required
  • Ready to use - can be applied directly from the container
  • High bond strength - provides excellent adhesion between Renderoc systems and concrete substrates
  • Non-flammable - safe for indoor and outdoor applications
  • Cost effective - economical in use compared to alternative bonding systems

Surface Preparation Requirements

All surfaces must be clean and free from dust and contamination prior to primer application. The substrate should be thoroughly soaked with clean water, with any excess water removed before applying the primer.

Application Method

Nitobond HAR is applied by scrubbing one coat well into the prepared surface. The Renderoc mortar can be applied as soon as the primer becomes tacky. If the primer dries before the mortar application, the area must be re-primed before proceeding.

Note: Nitobond HAR primer is generally not used when spraying Renderoc mortars.

Storage Conditions

The product should be stored in dry conditions at 5°C to 25°C in original unopened packaging. The material must be protected from frost to maintain its properties during storage.

Temperature Limitations

Nitobond HAR should not be applied when the temperature is below 5°C and falling, ensuring optimal curing and adhesion characteristics.

Cleaning and Maintenance

All equipment should be washed with clean water immediately after use to prevent material hardening on tools and equipment.

Alternative Applications

In exceptional circumstances where a substrate/repair barrier is required or where the substrate is wet or likely to remain permanently damp, Nitobond EP bonding aid should be used as an alternative. Contact Fosroc for further guidance on these specialized applications.

Safety Information

A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available from the Fosroc website and should be read carefully prior to use, as application or performance data may change over time.
