Nitoprime 120 is a single-component, fast-drying water-based primer specifically formulated for porous surfaces. Previously known as Emer-Proof Primer Porous, it provides excellent bonding and penetrating properties into concrete and masonry surfaces, making it an essential preparatory coating in waterproofing systems.

Application Coverage

The coverage rate for Nitoprime 120 varies based on substrate porosity:

• Approximately 6-8 m²/litre on general porous substrates
• Approximately 7 m²/litre on typical porous masonry surfaces

Coverage figures are theoretical values, and practical coverage may be substantially reduced due to wastage factors and substrate variability. Application of a second coat may be required depending on the porosity of the substrate to ensure even coverage.

Nitoprime 120 functions as a key component in the Nitoband System installation, where it prepares porous substrates according to specific substrate requirements. It also serves as an alternative to Nitoproof 510 (a more robust two-component epoxy primer) when priming porous masonry surfaces.

Surface Preparation Requirements

Before applying Nitoprime 120, surfaces must be:

• Clean and sound with no loose material
• Free of existing coatings and laitance
• Free of release agents, curing compounds, and oil/grease residues
• Properly prepared to receive the primer coating

Storage and Shelf Life

Nitoprime 120 must be stored in cool, dry conditions at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C in original, unopened containers. Storage above 30°C may reduce storage life.

Important Application Notes

• Nitoprime 120 should be lightly stirred before use
• Product appears milky white when wet and dries clear
• Not suitable for solvent-based finishes — only water-based systems should be applied over Nitoprime 120
• Membrane coatings must be applied only after primer has fully dried
• Substrate temperature conditions must be considered (not just ambient temperature) before application, as surface temperature can differ significantly from air temperature

Cleanup and Removal

• In wet state: Product cleans up with water
• Once dried: Product requires removal using Fosroc Solvent 10 or mechanical means
