Concure WB30 - Water Based Wax Emulsion Curing Compound

Concure WB30 is a water based wax emulsion used to retain moisture in concrete for effective curing. Used for concreting generally but especially useful for large areas of concrete construction such as runways, motorways or bridgeworks. Conforms to AS3799. Reduces surface shrinkage and cracking by eliminating moisture loss from exposed surfaces, increases concrete strength and dusting resistance, eliminates the need for damp hessian, sand or polythene, enables rapid film formation and efficient concrete hydration. Non-flammable.

Concure WB30 - Water-Based Wax Emulsion Curing Compound

Product Overview

Concure WB30 is a water-based wax emulsion curing compound manufactured by Fosroc that is designed to retain moisture in concrete and prevent surface shrinkage and cracking during the curing process. The product incorporates a special alkali reactive emulsion system that forms a non-penetrating continuous film when applied to cementitious surfaces, ensuring efficient cement hydration.

Product Variants

Concure WB30 is available in two distinct variants, each with specific performance characteristics:

Concure WB30 Clear

  • Appears white when wet and clear when dry
  • Complies with AS3799 Class A Type 1 standards
  • Available in 200 litre and 1000 litre container sizes
  • Product codes: FC663051-200L (200L) and FC663051-1000L (1000L made-to-order)

Concure WB30 White

  • Appears white in both wet and dry states
  • Complies with AS3799 Class A Type 2 standards
  • Light reflectance of 62% (exceeding the 60% requirement per ASTM 309-74)
  • Available in 200 litre and 1000 litre container sizes
  • Product codes: FC664071-200L (200L) and FC664071-1000L (1000L made-to-order)

Primary Uses and Applications

Concure WB30 is especially useful for large areas of concrete construction, including:

  • Runways - extensive airport concrete surfaces
  • Motorways - extensive road construction areas
  • Bridgeworks - structural concrete bridge applications

The product also functions as a bond breaker between the base lean mix and the structural wearing slab in pavement construction.

Key Advantages

  • Reduces surface shrinkage and cracking by eliminating moisture loss from exposed surfaces
  • Increases concrete strength and dusting resistance
  • Eliminates the need for damp hessian, sand or polythene sheeting
  • Rapid film formation on concrete surfaces
  • Enables concrete to hydrate more efficiently through moisture retention
  • Non-flammable and non-toxic - safe for application
  • Forms a non-penetrating continuous film that prevents excessive water evaporation

Design Criteria and Application Standards

According to AS3799 standards, Concure WB30 must be applied in a single coat application at a coverage rate of 5 m²/litre.

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

  • The concrete surface should be free from surface water before application
  • The compound should be applied as soon as possible after the concrete is free from surface water

Application Method

  • Thoroughly mix the product prior to use
  • Spray apply to the surface of newly placed concrete
  • Hold the spray nozzle approximately 450mm from the concrete surface
  • Pass the nozzle back and forth to ensure complete coverage
  • Maintain pump pressure at a level producing a fine spray

Coverage Rate

  • 5.0 m²/litre - based on single coat application

Equipment

Various types of spraying equipment can be used, including:

  • Knapsack sprayers
  • Motorised sprayers

Important Application Notes

  • Concure WB30 should not be continuously re-circulated through high shear gear pumps when used in concrete train applications
  • If continuous re-circulation is essential, the sprayer must be fitted with a low shear diaphragm pump

Cleaning and Maintenance

After use, spraying equipment should be cleaned immediately with water. If the spray nozzle becomes blocked with wax particles, they can be removed using white spirit or similar fluid.

Important Limitations

Due to the wax film produced, Concure WB30 must not be used as a curing aid on surfaces subjected to after-trade treatments that would require adhesion of subsequent materials.

Additional limitations include:

  • The applied membrane has a slightly tacky surface after application, which can attract dust and site contaminants until the membrane breaks down
  • The surface can be slippery during wet weather until the membrane breaks down
  • Should not be brushed onto soft, wet concrete or render surfaces that will be disturbed
  • Membrane breakdown depends on initial thickness and UV exposure; during this period the surface may remain tacky and attract site dust

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Store at temperatures between 4°C and 35°C in unopened original drums
  • Keep containers airtight to prevent surface evaporation
  • Avoid freezing or prolonged exposure to direct heat or direct sunlight
  • Do not use if lumps are present or if the product has a bacterial (rotting) smell

Standards Compliance

Concure WB30 complies with the requirements of AS3799-1998: liquid membrane specifications. Certification copies are available on the Fosroc website.
